Jimmy Allen Mickelberry passed away April 16,2026. He was born on a farm July 11, 1939 on his Mother's Birthday. 3 1/2 miles southeast of Garden City, Missouri. He was the son of Archie Russell and Eula Thelma (Hurt) Mickelberry. He was the first of his family to graduate from high school. He graduated from Garden City High School.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City, Missouri. On March 9, 1972 he married Merilynn Joan (Kirker) Mickelberry and they were married for 53 years.

He joined the United States Navy in 1957, after graduation from High School and served aboard two ships in the Far East, the U. S. S. Windham Bay C.V. E. 92 and the U.S.S. Cimmarron, AO-22. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1960, but served in the reserves until 1963.

He worked at Craftmark Homes where he was a leadman. He then worked for the Bendix Corporation in Kansas City for 10 years where he worked in the Aero Space Program building space capsules and missiles. He worked for the A. O Thompson Lumber Company as a carpenter before joining the Kansas City Missouri Parks and Recreation Department as a carpenter. He worked there for 25 years and retired in October 31, 1997.

He was a member of the Stanley Pack American Legion Post No. 0499, The National Rifle Association. The Sons of the American Revolution and the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America.

He worked with antique cars all his life and restored a 1938 Chevrolet Coupe. He was also an amateur photographer who always shared his photos with family and friends. and was published on several occasions.

Since retirement Jimmy has spent many years working on genealogy. He had traced 21 lines, in some cases back to 1429. His one wish that all his relatives would have their history to pass on to future generations. He also loved to travel and, in many cases, combined his enthusiasm for seeing new places with his genealogy.

Preceding him in death were: His wife Merilynn Joan (Kirker) Mickelberry, of Kansas City, Missouri his parents, his brother Billie Gene Mickelberry, One sister Wilma Irene (Purkey) Wade all of Garden City, Missouri

Surviving his Daughter, Julie Ann Lavery/Becca, his Son, Jimmy Mickelberry Jr.,/Cindy, Son Jeffrey Mickelberry/Larena. 11 Grandchildren, 22 Great Grandchildren, as well as Nieces, Nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2026 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2026 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with interment at Hendricks Cemetery, Urich, Missouri

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Phoenix Hospice and send in care to Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 432, Harrisonville, Missouri 64701.
