Joan Roselyn McDonald

Joan Roselyn (Ulmer) McDonald of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away at her home on May 9, 2025. She was 90 years old.

Joan lived a full life. She was born on October 19, 1934 in Fullerton, ND to Edwin and Ottillia (Weber) Ulmer. She spent her childhood and teenage years helping on her family’s farm before eventually moving to Kansas City to work for an insurance company. She met Carus McDonald and they were married on September 15, 1954 in Pineville, Missouri. They had many happy years and loved fishing, camping and traveling together. Joan was a dedicated wife and mother to six children, and she worked hard for her family. Joan loved to sew and made many beautiful quilts over the years. She loved flowers and her yard was always bursting with blooms. She enjoyed reading, playing games and visiting with friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters; one brother; a son, Carus O’Neil McDonald (Sonny); and one daughter Cindy Marie McDonald.

She is survived by daughter Debra (Earl) Coyan Smith; daughter Vickie Poindexter; son, Darrel (Amy) McDonald; son, Scott (Samalee) McDonald; Eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Cremation with a Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
