Joan B. Nixon was born September 1st, 1937 in Nashville Tennessee and died January 21st, 2026 at the age of 88 after a brief illness.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, her mother Dorothy Bruer, father John T Bruer, and a brother John Bruer, Jr.
Joan is survived by her daughter Cheri Farnsworth (Keith), son RM "Chip" Nixon, (Nancy) daughter Wendy Brown and her brother Gary Bruer. Joan was blessed with nine grandchildren: Ryan and Trevor Farnsworth, Shelby Nixon, Cameron and Paige Booth, Caitlin Spangler, Cara Henry, Molly Hogue, and Jacob Brown and eight great grandchildren: Bentley Booth, Jesse Moreno, Henry, Charlie and Bo Booth, Zoe and Ivy Farnsworth and Evelyn Spangler.
Joan graduated from Georgia Baptist Hospital in 1958 with a RN degree. Joan spent most of her career at different doctors' offices and even spent a brief time teaching at the Harrisonville Vo-tech school.
Joan's greatest love in life was her husband Bill. Having met in elementary school, the pair began dating in high school and were just shy of celebrating 67 years of marriage at the time of Bill's death in 2024. Theirs was truly a love story that no novel, TV series or movie would ever be able to get right. Completely devoted to one another, they raised a wonderful family and taught them the true meaning of love and family.
Just as Bill was a true Southern gentleman, Joan herself was a true Southern Belle. Known for her beautiful smile, her graciousness and gentle spirit, Joan had the ability to make everyone she met feel at home, welcomed and loved. Joan was known for the beautiful quilts that she made and was constantly searching for new material and patterns to create her next masterpiece that she would then bestow on someone she cared for. Everyone was excited to receive a "Joan Quilt" for it was proof positive of how much you were loved.
Joan's passing has left a void that will never be filled, but the family rests easy knowing that she is once again with Bill, the only place she truly wanted to be.
