Joanne McCue Smith

Joanne Carol McCue Smith, 84, of New Bern, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Carolina East Medical Center.

Joanne lived a long and meaningful life marked by dedication to her family, her work, and the many things that brought her joy. She spent 80 years of her life in Missouri before relocating to New Bern five years ago.

Joanne retired after approximately 35 years as Director of Medical Records at the former Cass Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri. Known for being remarkably tech-savvy-well ahead of her time-Joanne embraced technology with enthusiasm and confidence, impressing family and friends alike.

She treasured traveling with her beloved husband, Enriquez Smith, and together they created many special memories exploring new places. Above all, Joanne adored her family. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandson were the light of her life.

Joanne also found joy in collecting, especially her cherished Department 56 houses, along with many other treasured keepsakes gathered throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her chosen parents, Jack and Marjorie McCue; brother, Gary Beard; grandson, Jeremy Roller; and husband, Enriquez Smith.

She is survived by her mother, Jo Beard; her children, Gary Brian Kircher (Debbie Sue), Dana Bohlken, and Debbie Ann Meyers (Bob); sister, Carolyn Botsford (Allen); seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two nieces, Yvette Milholland and Tamara Violett; and one nephew, Doug Botsford.
