Lois Eileen Freeland

Lois Eileen Freeland of Creighton, Missouri was born June 7, 1947, in Carthage, Illinois. She was the youngest of six daughters born to Clarence and Mary (Hatcher) Walker. She went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2026, at the age of 78.

She joined the Primitive Baptist Church in Illinois at the age of 5, moving to Missouri soon after. She met the love of her life, Harry Lee Freeland, in 1964 when she moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri. She graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1965.

After graduation, she moved to Warsaw, Illinois, and worked as a Chiropractic receptionist for her brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Prior, until 1966. After that time, she moved back to Missouri where she began working at Sears as a cataloger until 1968. She then began working as a file clerk for the Federal Building in Kansas City, Missouri, until 1971.

On August 28, 1971, she joyfully married her beloved husband, Harry Freeland, becoming a homemaker. They went on to have two cherished children, Lisa Eileen on November 24, 1973, and Jeffery Lee on February 7, 1976. Harry and Lois were lovingly married for 54 years.

A devoted and beloved wife, mother, and Nana, Lois found the greatest joy in being in the presence of her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Adrian, Missouri. An avid gardener, she loved being outdoors and enjoying the splendor of God’s creation. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, writing poetry and songs, sewing, singing, and playing board and card games.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Esther (Richard) Prior and Edith (Charles) Surbaugh; six brothers-in-law, Richard (Esther) Prior, Charles (Edith) Surbaugh, John (Vera) Brunke, Freddy (Ella) Boen, John (Lena) Gray, and JC (Ann) Tausch.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Harry Freeland, of the home; two children, Lisa Freeland of Ballard, Missouri, and Jeffery (Terri) Freeland of Blue Springs, Missouri; three granddaughters, Lauren Freeland, Kristen Freeland, and Summer Preston; three sisters, Vera (John) Brunke, Ella (Freddy) Boen, and Lena (Jerry) Miller; one sister-in-law, Ann (JC) Tausch; three brothers-in-law, Richard (Shari) Freeland, Gary Freeland, Russell (Linda) Freeland; and countless nieces, nephews, church family, and friends.

Lois will be remembered for the way she unapologetically loved Christ, her spunky attitude, her humor and lightheartedness, her love of singing and all music, her generosity, and the way she fiercely loved and protected her family.
