L.W. “Buddy” Winfrey Jr.
Laverne Wesley “Buddy” Winfrey, Jr., 73, of Kingsville, was born March 30, 1942, in Hereford, Texas, the son of Laverne “Bud” and Edith “Butchie” (Standifer) Winfrey, Sr. He departed this life at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Buddy was a 1960 Pleasant Hill High School graduate. He was a United States Army veteran.
On November 3, 1963, he was united in marriage to Linda Louise Ray in Pleasant Hill. She preceded him in death just 8 months earlier on January 30, 2015.
Buddy was employed as Technician for Western Electric in Lee’s Summit. He was an also a cattle farmer and avid outdoorsmen. He loved farming, hunting, and fishing; he especially loved mowing. He was proud of his family and cherished the time spent with all of them.
Buddy was also preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Keith Carter of Lone Jack; two grandsons Kyle and Klay of Lone Jack; other relatives and a host of many friends.
Graveside funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Reverend D. Kent Deubner of the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church will officiate. Casket bearers are Klay Carter, Kyle Carter, Austin Ray, Danny Ray, Jamie Ray, and Kevin Ray. Honorary casket bearers are Jim Beattie, Dennis Ray, Kenneth Ray, and Charlie Schyer. There will be no visitation.
Final arrangements have been entrusted to Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kansas City Hospice House and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
