Mack Miles

Mack “James” Miles, 88, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 13, 2024 peacefully at his home in Peculiar MO among his loved ones.

Mack was born to Pearl & Jimmie Miles, in Branson, MO, on April 24, 1935. Early in Mack’s life he moved from Branson with his Mother to Martin City, MO where he lived on the South Ridge Dairy Farm with his Step-Father, Edward Pedigo and Sisters, Leanna and Elaine.  This is where his passion for driving and being out on the road all began.

After graduating from Grandview Senior High School, Mack served in the Army and was stationed in Germany.  While there he worked in the Motor Pool and was a member of the Color Guard.  He loved telling Army stories and was stationed on the same base as Elvis Presley.  He decided to surprise his Mom and showed up for dinner one day, unannounced; she literally thought she was seeing things.  Needless to say, his Mom was thrilled to see him and know that he had not reenlisted and was home to stay!  She was his biggest fan, and he was hers too.

Upon his return, he worked on the family dairy farm and drove the Martin City school bus where he met and married the pretty Cheerleader he drove to school every day, Sue “Suzanne” Kirkpatrick.  Mack and Sue had 3 kids, Jim, Penny and Christy and made their home in Grandview.  Mack would then go on to marry Marilyn Gentile and Carol Hickman.  At age 70 Mack adopted a little one, Brandon, who filled the seat where Jim sat in the trucks when he was a young one.

Mack held many titles:  Christian, Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Deacon, Friend, and the Best Darn Truck Driver out there.  He had a real love of driving on the open road, especially out West in the desert and California.  He’d traveled to almost every state in the US and had friends all over the place.  The sound of the truck pulling in front of the house or coming down the gravel road was always a welcoming sound!

Being raised on a farm, he had a real love for animals.  He had so many pets, like his pet Duck, a Cat that rode a while in the truck with him, Fred the Rooster and his best 4-legged friend Marley.  Mack loved his fellow humans as much as he did animals though.  He’d help everyone he met that was in need and did it out of love.  If someone looked hungry, he’d give them his last $5.00 or buy them a meal, if they needed prayer, he’d pray for them, if they were alongside the road broke down, he’d stop and help them out.

Mack was preceded in death by his Beloved Mother and Step-Father (Pearl & Eddie Pedigo), his Father (Jimmie Miles), Wives (Sue Miles) & (Carol Miles), Sister (Elaine Ramsey), Daughter-in-Law (Holly Miles), Grandson (David Miles), and his beloved dog (Marley).

Mack is survived by his Sons (Jim & Brandon Miles), Daughters (Penny Miles and Christy Buttram), Sisters (Leanna Bishop & Pansy Applegate), Grandchildren (Eric, Jennifer, Jimmy, Ben, Danielle, Christopher & Lissie) and 20 Great Grandchildren.
