Marie Annette Candiano

Marie Annette Candiano, of Peculiar, Missouri, departed this life peacefully at her home on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the age of 79 years. She was born on February 19, 1947, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of John “Tony” Maddox and Olive “Nancy” Maddox.

Marie was a devoted woman of faith and a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was also a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Through her nursing career, Marie devoted her life to caring for others with compassion, kindness, and a gentle heart.

Outside of her career, Marie found joy in traveling and decorating. She loved making spaces feel warm and welcoming and enjoyed exploring new places and creating lasting memories with those she loved. Above all else, Marie treasured her family and the time they spent together.

She is survived by her loving husband John Candiano Sr.; her children, Annette (Kevin) Nierman, John Candiano Jr., and Christina (Nate) VanderHamm; her brother, John (Karen) Maddox; and her beloved grandchildren, Hannah Nierman, Jackson Nierman, Joseph Candiano, Alissa VanderHamm, Marissa Candiano, and Evan VanderHamm; along with many other relatives and friends who will deeply miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John “Tony” Maddox and Olive “Nancy” Maddox.

Marie will be remembered for her caring heart, strong faith, love of family, and the kindness she shared with everyone she met.

Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, Missouri with lunch following Mass. Inurnment at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri at a later date.
