Mark Scavuzzo, 74, departed this life on Friday August 21, 2026, at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family. Mark, son of Salvatore and Hazel (Lathrop) Scavuzzo, was born on November 10, 1951, in Harrisonville, Missouri.
A lifelong area resident, Mark grew up in Harrisonville. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for many years. He graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1969. After graduation, Mark attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, majoring in Political Science. Mark always looked fondly upon his time in Columbia, returning to meetup with friends and attend games and events when time allowed, and he remained close friends with many of his former classmates and roommates until his passing.
Mark obtained an MBA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and joined the family grocery business in Harrisonville shortly thereafter, where he continued to work and help run the store with the Scavuzzo family until it was later sold in 1999.
Mark married the love of his life, Lydia (LoGiudice), on September 29, 1979, at St. Gabrielle’s Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri. They built a wonderful life together, welcoming two children, Danielle and Salvatore. They would have celebrated their 47th anniversary this year. Mark adored Lydia and his children.
Mark loved to learn. Even as a child, he would read anything and everything, including encyclopedias. His love of learning, particularly about the American West, carried on into adult life. Throughout the years, he enjoyed vacationing with his family, especially road tripping across the United States. His children often joked that he stopped at every fort west of the Mississippi, insisting they read every historical marker and sign along the way.
He had an eclectic taste in movies and music and loved sports—especially the Royals and his beloved MU Tigers and Chiefs! He loved cheeseburgers and chocolate!
Mark is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, his father and mother, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tony and Mary LoGiudice, and his infant son, Gian Carlo Scavuzzo. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife, Lydia, of the home, daughter, Danielle Scavuzzo (Brad Seiner), of Raymore, son, Salvatore Scavuzzo, of Harrisonville, and brother, Greg Scavuzzo, of Harrisonville. Mark is also survived by several loving sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jasper and Gina Solano, Josephine LoGiudice, David and Lena Hogan, and Sal LoGiudice, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
It is impossible to pretend that one so special can be summed up in a few short paragraphs. Mark meant the world to his wife and children, and no words can express how deeply his absence is felt and will continue to be felt for the rest of their lives.
Per Mark’s wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army (of Kansas and Western Missouri). Donations can be made through the link or mailed to Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 432, Harrisonville, Mo. 64701.
