Martha LaVawn Ford, 89, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, formerly of Lawson, Missouri, was born, October 14, 1924, in Oklahoma, the daughter of Jefferson Davis and Mary Lucinda (Cable) Arnold. She was born onto her heavenly birthday on Friday, April 4, 2014, at the Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation center surrounded with love and family.
LaVawn was a 1938 Clinton High School graduate.
On June 28, 1952, she was united in marriage to William Hugh Ford in Leavenworth, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2003.
LaVawn had been employed as an office worker for the Kats drug store in Kansas City. Later she worked as a Keypunch operator for Phillips 66 andCoast to Coast. She was a former member of the St. Ann Catholic Church in Excelsior Springs and was a current member of the St. Bridget Catholic Church in Pleasant Hill. She was also a member of the Pleasant Hill Lions Club. In her spare time she enjoyed listening to music, bird watching and was an avid reader.
LaVawn was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, J. D. Arnold, and Edward Arnold.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Judith Ford, of Pleasant Hill; one sister Mary LaVern Robertson of Parkville; one sister-in-law Catherine Bush of Overland Park, Kansas; 10 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the St. Bridget Catholic Church. The Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:00 am with visitation following until service time at the church. Monsignor Robert Murphy will officiate.
Graveside services and interment will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Casket bearers are Adam Bennett, Jerry Ferguson, Kenny Nauss, Luke Shrout, and Paul Shrout.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Hill Lay-Clergy Council and may be sent on care of the funeral home.
