Mary E. Owen

August 22, 1941 — October 27, 2016

Mary Ellen (Vancamp) Owen, 75, of Urich, Missouri (formerly of Peculiar, Missouri), beloved mother, grandma, great-grandma, and sister, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016. She was born August 22, 1941 to the late George and Margaret (Sullivan) Vancamp.
She grew up first in Kansas City where she liked to go to the movies. Her family then moved to Dayton, MO where she milked cows and worked on the farm while learning many valuable life lessons with her sisters. She married Les Owen, and they moved to Ruskin and later to Peculiar to raise their children. She worked at the J.C. Penney Distribution Center in Lenexa, Kansas for several years. Those who knew her enjoyed her ability to tell a story and make outrageous and comical facial expressions. She would sing her “Oh Me, Oh My, Silly Pie” song that had a way of making everyone smile and feel better. She was an analytical person who was welcoming and down to earth. She also enjoyed gardening and had a classy Victorian sense of style. Her dedication to family was extremely strong and evident throughout her life.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Les Owen, her parents, George and Margaret Vancamp, her sister Nancy Lillard, and friend James (John) Wheeldon.
Mary is survived by two sons: Carl Owen and wife Julie of Fulton, Missouri and Marc Owen and wife Patti of Osceola, Missouri; two daughters: Kendra Wood and husband Blane of Clinton, Missouri and Angie Perez and husband Alex of Liberty, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Dorothy Craig of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, Norma Handke of Butler, Missouri, and Donna Gibson of Creighton, Missouri; one sister-in-law Chloe Seiz and husband Al of Kingsville, Missouri; and other relatives and friends.

Family received friends Monday, October 31, 2016 at the funeral home.
