Maureen Porter, 97, of Liberty, MO died May 6, 2025. She was born in Kansas City, KS to Russel Wilhoit and Anna “Nancy” Wilhoit. Maureen graduated from Paseo High School and worked as a bookkeeper at the Kansas City stockyards for 44 years. She then worked for McBrann Cycle Shed for 14 years before she retired. She was a lifelong, avid baseball fan and enjoyed attending and watching baseball games since she was old enough to ride the streetcar on her own. She met her future husband at the stockyards and moved to the farm. She is survived by her beloved son Sam (Kris) Porter, her sister Alice (John) Hoffman, grandchildren Amanda Porter, John K. Porter, and James R. Porter, niece Julie Eveker, great nieces Elizabeth Hoffman and Sarah Eveker, and great nephew Evan Eveker. She was preceded in death by her husband John Porter, parents, brother and sister-in-law John (Ursula) Wilhoit, niece Karen Hoffman, and nephew Blake Wilhoit. Her love of food and cooking was legendary. She had an excellent memory and would recount stories of life during the Great Depression and was a wealth of knowledge about family history. She loved her animals, especially her dogs and cats. Later in life, she enjoyed spending time at Sam’s farm with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
