Mildred Van Pelt

Mrs. Mildred McQuitty Van Pelt, of Lees Summit, Missouri, was born on August 1, 1908 on a small farm near Chilhowee, Missouri the daughter of George Newton and Henrietta (Hanna) McQuitty. She departed this life Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the John Knox Village Care Center, Lees Summit at the age of 98 years, 8 months and 24 days.
On January 3, 1931, Mildred was united in marriage to John Dewitt Van Pelt in Richmond, Missouri.
Mildred was raised on the small farm with eight brothers and sisters. After graduating from Chilhowee High School, Mildred started teaching at a one room country school house near the farm and continued teaching, off and on, until her retirement at age 64. Mildred graduated from Central Missouri State University at 56 years of age. After many fruitful years, Mildred will be sorely missed by her loving family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Dewitt Van Pelt on September 3, 1994; three brothers, Morris, Everett and George McQuitty; three sisters, Ora Richardson, Evelyn Mouse and Mary Ruth Childress.
Mildred leaves two sons, James D. Van Pelt, Tuftonboro, New Hampshire and Bill D. Van Pelt, Lee's Summit, Missouri; four grandchildren, Dina Ramon of Rowayton, Connecticut, David Van Pelt of Los Angeles, California, Peter Van Pelt of Rocklin, California and Susan Walker of Medford, Oregon; four great-grandchildren, Connor Walker and Mackenzie Walker of Medford, Oregon, Isabel Ramon of Rowayton, Connecticut and Evan Brooks of Rocklin, California.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Lee's Summit Christian Church with with interment in the Wakenda Cemetery near Hardin, Missouri.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Lee's Summit Christian Church Memorial fund.
