Mrs. Ollie Fern Hartzler of Garden City, Missouri was born September 28, 1912 near Garden City the daughter of Arthur Lonzo and Oatie (Cummins) Mainard. She departed this life Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 17 days.
On July 4, 1933, Ollie was united in marriage to Sherman Blaine Hartzler in Garden City, Missouri.
Ollie was a homemaker and was employed as a seamstress for the Garden City Garment Factory, Garden City, Missouri for 26 years until her retirement in 1978. At an early age she joined the Daugherty, Missouri Methodist Church later transferring her membership to the United Methodist Church, Garden City where she enjoyed being a member of the quilting club. She was a member of the Rook Club and the Pitch Club in Garden City and enjoyed the outdoors working in her garden and flowers. Ollie, was a lifelong area resident of Garden City.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman on July 7, 1977, two grandchildren, Jerry and Sandra; a brother, Arthur Junior Mainard; two sisters, Lora Long and Opal Leslie.
She is survived by a son, Gary D. Hartzler, Kansas City, Missouri; a daughter, Shirley J. Bethell, Milwaukie, Oregon; four grandchildren, Michael Hartzler, Jefferson City, Missouri, Travis Hartzler and wife Diana, Kathleen and Stephanie Hartzler all of Kansas City, Missouri; nine great-grandchildren, John and Desirae Holcombe of Oregon, Devin and Shelby Hartzler, Jefferson City, Missouri, Rachelle, Joshua, Jessica and James Hartzler, Bonnits Mill, Missouri and Calvin Crooke, Kansas City, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 19, 2005 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice or to the United Methodist Church of Garden City, Missouri Memorial Fund.
