Retired U.S. Army Major James Adam Valentich, 83, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away on September 24, 2025. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and throughout his life traveled to many places while proudly serving his country.
James dedicated 33 years of his life to the United States Army, a career he was deeply passionate about. His commitment to service was a defining part of who he was and reflected his sense of duty and honor.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Susan Marie Valentich; his parents, Ann Musser and Michael Valentich; as well as his brothers and sisters.
James is survived by his son, Stephen Valentich and his wife Connie of Harrisonville; his daughter, Dennine Odom of Grandview; and his cherished grandchildren: Brandon Madden (Courtney), Hope Margusity (Kyle), Kendra Wachner (Wesley), Aubrey Valentich, Makayla Johnson (Alex), Garrett Valentich, Emma Valentich, and Gavin Valentich. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Blaine Onka, Kinsley Wachner, Walker Madden, Jensen Madden, and Vivianne Margusity.
Beyond his military career, James enjoyed admiring old cars, collecting coins, and making memories in Las Vegas with his wife. Above all, he loved being a grandfather, and spoiling his grandchildren brought him endless joy.
In accordance with his wishes, James will be cremated. A burial service with military honors will be held at a later date at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the local VFW and sent in care of Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 432, Harrisonville, Missouri 64701.
