Richard Eugene Cowan, of Garden City, Missouri was born January 15, 1931 in Kingsville, Missouri the son of Earl Lester and Mary Elizabeth Pearl (Wade) Cowan. He departed this life on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 13 days.
On May 16, 1953, Richard was united in marriage to Frances Marion Giddley in Harrisonville, Missouri.
Richard was employed as a custodian for the Harrisonville High School. Earlier he was employed with Sexton Metal Craft in Raytown, Missouri. Richard loved to hunt, fish and taking care of his cows and pigs.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Bill Cowan.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Cowan of the home; four children, Linda Smith, Garden City, Missouri, Larry Cowan and wife Kelly, Richard Cowan and wife Dianne, Connie Teal and Jeff all of Harrisonville, Missouri; grandchildren, Ashley Hartsell and husband Nick, Whitney Sechrest and husband Dillon, Dustin Cowan, Elizabeth Cowan, Meggan Rorvig and husband Mark, Jeremy Cowan and wife Heather, Rachel Cowan, Leslie Smith and husband Dustin, Landon Teal, Logan Teal, Brittany Darby and Devin Darby; great-grandchildren, Emma Rorvig, Westin, Lawson and Avery Cowan, Carter and Caylee Smith and Easton Darby; two sisters, Dorothy Ayler, Garden City, Missouri, Marie Bohannon, Kingsville, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
