Robert Thomas Young, 80, passed away peacefully in the home he built in West Line, MO on Monday, December 28, 2015. He was born April 20, 1935 to Herschel and Geneva (Prettyman) Young in West Line, MO, the fourth of six children.
Graduated from Freeman High School in 1953. Robert was married to his high school sweetheart, Lois (Wilson) Young, on April 22, 1955, at the Freeman Baptist Church. Robert and Lois served the community, operating the West Line Telephone Office from 1956 to 1964. Robert was known for his passion of softball/baseball, and was heavily recruited by town teams for his pitching ability. He inherited his enjoyment of raising hogs from his Dad and a love of gardening from his Mom. Additional pastimes included a family tradition of playing cards, dominoes and marbles that started at an early age and continued throughout his life. He served as a charter member for the Village of West Line town board and was also a member of the Glenwild Cemetery Association. He retired from a life in construction from the Hank Dusselier Foundation Company in 2001.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, May Robinette; three brothers, Herschel L. Young, Jim Young, and J.D. Young; a Grandson, Brandon Miner; and a Son-In-Law, Mike Hinchcliffe.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Young of 60 years of the home; six children; Bobbie Miner and husband Bill, Sheila Hinchcliffe, Kirk Young and partner Nicole, Dawn Newman and husband Jeff, Ward Young and wife Amy, Paul Young and wife Hallie, sixteen grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren, one brother Charles Young and wife Jean, and sister-in-law Ruth Young and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 1, 2016 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Graveside services were held Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Glenwild Cemetery near Cleveland, Missouri.
Family suggests contributions may be made to Glenwild Cemetery Association or to West Line Christian Church memorial fund.
