Ron Allen of Locust Grove, Virginia, was born on April 5, 1944, in San Diego, California, to Orville and Junetta Allen. He passed away on January 9, 2015, of a hemorrhagic stroke at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Douglas Allen of Lee’s Summit.
Ron was employed by Western Electric Co. (now Alcatel-Lucent) upon graduation from Garden City High School in 1962. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1964, receiving basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and served in Vietnam during his final year in the Army. He was united in marriage to Jeanne Treadway in 1966.
It was while working at Western Electric that Ron began his lifelong involvement with the Communications Workers of America (CWA), the labor union representing workers there. He began working fulltime for CWA and retired in 2000 after 38 years of service. He forged many meaningful relationships through his work and his dedication to social justice.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne of the home, two sons, James (and Kristina) Allen of Ashburn, Virginia, and Ryan (and Betsy) Allen of Leesburg, Virginia, and four grandchildren, Justin, Kaitlyn, Kari, and Owen. Two sisters, Sharon (and Joe) Yoder and Linda (and Ronnie) Mueller, both of Garden City, two sisters-in-law, Gloria Allen, Lee’s Summit, MO and Cheryl Treadway, Winchester, Virginia. and numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his passing.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 15, 1:30 pm, at St. David's Episcopal Church, 43600 Russell Branch Parkway, Ashburn, Virginia 20147. A reception at the home of Ryan Allen, 806 Melody Court SE, Leesburg, Virginia 20175, will follow the service.
