Roy Woodring

Daniel Roy Woodring of Garden City, Missouri was born near Creighton, Missouri on July 20, 1928 to Daniel Arthur and Clara Rebecca (Randol) Woodring. He passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at his home at the age of 87 years.
Roy was a 1946 graduate of Creighton High School. After graduating, he went to Kansas City to work, staying with his sister Anna Pearl and Melvin Gregg.
On October 9, 1949, Roy was united in marriage to Arlene Allison and to this union they had a son, Steven Leroy on March 29, 1952.
Roy worked for Leon Schnorf building homes and later for George Eavy in Harrisonville before going out on his own and starting R&E Hardwoods. One of his first jobs was building a new house for Frankie and Zara Boals. He built many custom homes and several commercial and church projects, including the Old Cedar Inn and the Methodist Church in Garden City.
On May 1, 1980, Roy was united in marriage to Elinor M. Burton.
Roy enjoyed gardening, fishing and handcrafting beautiful furniture made from walnut and oak. After retiring from R&E Hardwoods, he and Elinor enjoyed traveling in the 1984 Airstream motor home going to Alaska, Wisconsin, Michigan, Niagara Falls, North Carolina and many more places.
Roy served on the school board during the consolidation of the Garden City, Creighton and Urich School districts, member of the Garden City United Methodist Church, 50 year member of the Index Masonic Lodge #54 A.F. & A.M., Garden City.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ellis and three sisters, Dorothy Stocklafer, Anna Pearl Gregg and Ruth Keenan.
Roy is survived by his wife, Elinor of the home; a son, Steven and wife Helen; grandchildren, Dan Woodring and Danelle Bailey; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bailey, Connor Bailey, Ashton Woodring; step-children, Debra Brittain (Jim) and Kyle Burton (Christie); step-granddaughter, Katelyn Courtney, step-great-grandchildren, Kaci Johnson, Toby Johnson, Kylie Courtney, Hayleigh Courtney, Nevaeh Reece and Brenna Erickson; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held, Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Dayton Cemetery near Garden City.
