Shirley Mae Merrifield of Garden City, Missouri, was born December 22, 1945, in Dayton, Kentucky, the daughter of George and Edna Pickens. She departed this life on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Aspire Senior Living in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, at the age of 80 years old.

On June 27, 1964, Shirley was united in marriage to Bill Merrifield in Tustin, California.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Shirley found her greatest joy in the presence of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always eager to hear of their latest adventures and celebrate their many milestones. Beyond her family, Shirley found peace and simple delight in the quiet beauty of nature. She spent many happy hours watching the squirrels play, finding a unique sense of companionship and humor in their lively antics. Shirley will be missed deeply by everyone she knew.

Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill; her brother, George Pickens; and two sisters, Betty and Georgiana.

She is survived by her two sons: Ronnie Merrifield of Archie, Missouri, and Danny (Christina) Merrifield of Archie, Missouri. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with one more expected soon. Two sisters Jeannie Quezada and Donna (Jim) Stanton.
