Willa Marie Hammons, 93, of Pleasant Hill, was born, Sunday, October 26, 1919, in Harrisonville, the daughter of William Roger and Ethel (Bittle) Hudspeth. She departed this life at 10:48 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Pleasant Hill Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Willa was a 1938 Pleasant Hill High School graduate.
On July 15, 1939, she was united in marriage to Daniel Dillon Hammons in Jasper, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 29, 2002.
Willa was a homemaker. She and Dan also owned and operated Hammon’s grocery store and service station in Pleasant Hill for many years. She loved gardening, flowers and fishing. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church.
Willa was preceded in death by one brother William C. Hudspeth; and two sisters Cynthia A. Burt and Dora F. Ranallo.
She is survived by one son Bill Hammons of Pleasant Hill; three grandchildren Lori (and Ron DVM) Baker of Pleasant Hill, Danny Hammons of Arlington, Texas, and Donny Hammons of Pleasant Hill; two great granddaughters Samantha Baker and Sara Baker of Pleasant Hill; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the Stanley-Dickey funeral home. Reverend D. Kent Deubner of the First Christian Church officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Danny Hammons, Donny Hammons, Ed Hammons, Jerod Hammons, Shane Hammons, and Steve Hammons. John Hammons serviced as an honorary casket bearer.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Pleasant Hill Meals on Wheels and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
