About Us

Our Heritage

Our heritage began on July 4, 1947 when Bill J. and Wilma Dickey moved to Garden City, Missouri to manage the local funeral home.  They raised their four children in Garden City, Sharon, Billy, Lou Ann and Jerald. Bill was a licensed embalmer and funeral director and working alongside him was Wilma who was also a licensed funeral director. They served each family with dedication, respect, attention to detail, truth and honesty.

While in Garden City, they were quite active in the community, being members of the First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and church treasurer for many years, City Council, Lions Club, Index Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star and the local school board. Bill was also a Navy Veteran World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre for 19 months.

Dickey Funeral Homes, Inc. expanded to Harrisonville, Missouri in 1980 and later to Pleasant Hill, Missouri in 2007. In 1995, they sold their interests in the funeral homes to their son, Jerald A. Dickey. He continues to operate the funeral homes with the same principles as his parents did since 1947.
